Te Putahi Maori o Manurewa

Two existing schools Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Manurewa and Te Wharekura o Manurewa are co-educational facilities which teach primarily through Te Reo Māori. They were located on two separate sites, hindering the ability of the Kaiako to teach the principles of Te Aho Matua to the Ākonga.

The project provided a new purpose-built facility on a ‘greenfield’ site for the schools to relocate and co-habit. The building has been designed to embrace a greater connection and sense of community and whanau, to allow the teaching of Tamariki for the full duration of their educational journey, all under one roof.

Nick Geens as lead PM, has overseen the construction phase of the project, working with RDT Pacific. The project team has integrated holistic elements favoured by Whānau, Iwi and other community stakeholders. The partnering, engaging, and communicating with the active School management team and Board of Trustees through the building process, has been an essential component of the project success, for the benefit of Tangata Whenua and the wider community.

Northcote Intermediate School

Northcote Intermediate School is at the heart of a thriving community. The school is a reciprocal hub for Northcote’s growing multicultural population, and this relationship was pivotal in delivering a roll growth solution for current and future students, their whānau and the community.

When Northcote Intermediate began to outgrow its existing facilities, the school saw an opportunity to create a bespoke solution to enable teaching and learning to happen in more flexible ways. RDT Pacific was engaged by the Ministry of Education for Project Management and Engineer to the Contract services. The school’s active community relationships were considered in the development of the new build with consultation informing the design.

The project was delivered in two stages. Stage 1 involved the creation of a larger parking area and installation of additional civil infrastructure to provide future-proofing options for the school. Stage 2 saw the build take place with dedicated collaboration between the design, construction, and management teams. Ensuring the safety of staff and students and maintaining the school’s regular operations during the construction process were top priorities for the project team.

The project team valued their relationship with the principal, which helped to counterbalance the potentially disruptive nature of construction happening onsite during school hours. The two-level building, Te Whare o Akoranga at Northcote Intermediate School has enabled a dynamic learning environment where indoor-outdoor flow and collaborative learning spaces respond to different needs and uses.

Te Whare o Akoranga is now at the heart of Northcote Intermediate School, providing much-needed space for the school to grow with their community.

Fire Damage Restoration and Infrastructure Reinstatement Project

Matrix PM was engaged as the project manager for a complex insurance restoration project following a devastating fire that destroyed a significant portion of the building. The scope of the project extended beyond typical restoration, requiring intricate coordination with both local authorities and key infrastructure providers.

Working closely with The Project Hub as project designers and technical representative, Matrix PM have worked as project managers for the rebuild of the property on behalf of the Owner and acting as liaison with the Insurers to navigate the complex environment of cost apportionment and budget control as part of the claim management process. Our ability to handle the technical and logistical challenges, including infrastructure reinstatement and council approvals, was key to the successful delivery of this complex restoration project.

This project is a testament to Matrix PM’s expertise in managing insurance projects that require multi-stakeholder coordination with complex infrastructure reinstatement.
